Sport Relief Tennis Tournament – Sunday 23rd March

138 players descended on Strathallan school to take part in a Ratings and Mini Tennis Team tournaments on Sunday in aid of Sport Relief and organised by Jane Morrison from Kinnoull tennis club/Scottish Tennis Holidays. Twenty-eight U16s first played ratings matches. Then at 12noon forty U8s arrived and played a total of 104 mini red matches. At the same time twenty four U10s fought it out playing 42 matches. No sooner had the U8s finished, than forty four U9s arrived to compete and played 74 matches!
Results were as follows:
U8 ‘A’ event – joint winners – Central District and Kinnoull All Stars
U8 ‘B’ event – winners – David Lloyd Monifieth B; Runners-up – Kinnoull Kids
U9 ‘A’ event winners – Central District; Runners-up – Kinnoull All Stars
U9 ‘B’ event winners – Central District ‘B’ team; Runners-up – Kinnoull Cubs
U10 winners – Kinnoull All Stars; Runners-up – David Lloyd Monifieth

A magnificent £500 was raised for Sport Relief! Event organiser, Jane Morrison, said – ”It was fabulous to see so many young children enjoying competing in a really fun event and for such a good cause. I would like to thank all those who helped on the day by umpiring and those who donated lots of delicious home baking for the cafe. Special thanks go to Strathallan School for free use of their fantastic facilities. They are continuously supporting local tennis events which makes a huge difference to the players in this area.”

Ian Conway, President of Tennis Scotland, presented the prizes. He was hugely impressed by the number of youngsters competing and said ” Tennis would benefit hugely if there were more events like this one. It is fantastic to see so many very young children competing and enjoying playing.”
